Workshop in Ishinomaki

Things are progressing nicely at Peace by Piece.

Cheryl was able to travel with Team Tsukuba to the city of Ishinomaki, in Miyagi prefecture for a weekend of volunteer work.  (map:http://www.maplandia.com/japan/tohoku/miyagi/ishinomaki/)  We camped on university grounds and took baths in local hot springs.

The Koganehama Kaikan (Koganehama community center) was bustling with volunteers from many different groups.  After helping clear drain gutters with Team Tsukuba the first day,  Cheryl then focused on a mosaic workshop the next morning.

Nine residents plus 3 helpers enjoyed making mini mosaics and asked us to come again.

It seems like a humble but enthusiastic beginning.  A local resident agreed to help set up the next workshop, so that we can spread the word more efficiently.

Cooperating with Team Tsukuba will allow Peace by Piece volunteers to travel to Sendai or Ishinomaki once a month or so.

Thank you for your continued support.
